Description
The Kaye Dynamic Multi-Positional Stander allows 360 degrees of movement within the base of support while the client is safely aligned in a standing position. This unique stander is an important innovation for clients who do not develop adequate balance, weight shift or postural control to stand or walk unaided.
The Kaye Dynamic Stander is distinctive in several ways as reported by clients and therapists who participated in clinical trials. First, the excursion of movement of the stander is adjusted with a spring loaded crank. Clients who were fearful of moving in standing reported that they felt in control and were not fearful when initiating movement. They could begin by experiencing limited movement within their base of support and increase the range of movement as they developed confidence. The resistance to movement can be adjusted so that clients of many ages, sizes and weight can work on postural control.
Second, since sway can be damped down, clients were able to pair postural control with function, experiencing the typical weight shifts that accompany reaching, manipulation, speech, eating and self care activities. Clients described that they felt less stiffness and activities were easier to perform when they were permitted adaptive movements while standing.
Third, since clients are securely stabilized, therapists reported that clients learned to independently activate weight shifting by pushing into the base with their feet as they moved away from the vertical position and brought themselves back to midline. The clients were able to develop a sense of midline in the vertical position.
Movement in standing appears to promote better circulation in the feet and legs. Clients with poor cardiovascular supply were able to remain comfortable in the Kaye Dynamic Stander for longer periods of time than on other static standers. They had less complaints of fatigue or aching in their legs and feet and less blanching or flushing of the skin.
Features
The Kaye Dynamic Standers, available in two sizes, are designed to accommodate users who need support at the hips and pelvis to maintain standing alignment. Adjustable, lateral pelvic cushions can be used firmly against the sides of the pelvis to assure symmetry, while lower knee cushions can assist knee extension and help maintain hip-knee-foot alignment. The stander can be locked in the upright position when a stable position is needed, such as transferring into and out of the stander. Both standers come standard with a tray and swivel, locking casters.
Optional accessories include an Abductor and Lateral Pads to help maintain hip-knee-foot alignment.
